# Managing a color palette in DataLens On-premises

In DataLens On-premises, you can [create](#create-palette), [edit](#edit-palette), or [delete](#delete-palette) a color palette and [configure the default palette](#default-palette).

## Creating a color palette {#create-palette}

To create a color palette:

1. Go to the DataLens home page.
1. 1. Select the **Appearance** tab.
1. Under **Palettes**, add a new palette:

   - Gradient color palette

     A gradient color palette is used in charts for numerical measures.

     1. Go to **Gradient color palettes** and click **+ Add palette**.
     1. In the window that opens, enter the following parameters:

        * Enter the **Palette name** at the top.
        * Enter the start value for the gradient color at the bottom left and its end value at the bottom right. For example, specify `0044A3` on the left and `8CCBFF` on the right for a dark blue to light blue gradient.

          To add an intermediate gradient value, click <!-- diplodoc:svg ![image](../../_assets/console-icons/plus.svg) --><svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="16" height="16" fill="none" viewBox="0 0 16 16"><path fill="currentColor" fill-rule="evenodd" d="M8 1.75a.75.75 0 0 1 .75.75v4.75h4.75a.75.75 0 0 1 0 1.5H8.75v4.75a.75.75 0 0 1-1.5 0V8.75H2.5a.75.75 0 0 1 0-1.5h4.75V2.5A.75.75 0 0 1 8 1.75" clip-rule="evenodd"/></svg> below and specify the value. You can check the changes in the preview window.

     1. Click **Save**.

   - Color palette

     A color palette is used in charts for discrete values: measure names, dimension values.

     1. Go to **Color palettes** and click **+ Add palette**.
     1. In the window that opens, enter the following parameters:

        * Enter the **Palette name** at the top.
        * In the list on the right, click **+ Add color** and enter values for palette colors, in hex format.

          There are 20 default colors. You can edit, add, or delete palette colors. To change the order of colors, drag them using the mouse. You can check the changes in the preview window.

     1. Click **Save**.

To change a color palette:

1. Select the **Appearance** tab.
1. Go to **Palettes** and click the line with the palette to change.
1. Make changes in the **Configure color palettes** window.
1. Click **Save**.

## Deleting a color palette {#delete-palette}

Deleting a color palette resets the [color settings](../../concepts/chart/settings.md#color-settings) in all charts where it was used.

To delete a color palette:

1. Go to the DataLens home page.
1. 1. Select the **Appearance** tab.
1. Go to **Palettes** and hover over the name of the palette to delete.
1. 1. Click **Delete**.

## Setting the default color palette {#default-palette}

To set any of the preinstalled or previously added color palettes as default:

1. Go to the DataLens home page.
1. 1. Select the **Appearance** tab.
1. Under **Palettes**, select the default palette from the list. The default palette will be applied to all charts that use it. In charts with custom palette settings, the palette will not change.

If you delete the default color palette, the `Default 20` palette will apply instead. It will be applied to all charts that use the default palette.
